The Sleep Apnea Evaluation

What To Expect At The Sleep Institute

Successful treatment first comes with accurately identifying the source of the problem. Our goal here at the Sleep institute is to not only raise more awareness about this serious sleep disorder but also successfully treat the disease to help people live a healthier life.

At your initial consultation, you will meet with our doctors and they will review your case in detail. Our doctors will perform a thorough maxillofacial examination, review your xrays and sleep study results. Based on this information, the recommended treatment will be discussed with you. If you are a candidate for surgical treatment, the next step usually is a preoperative visit where we obtain presurgical records (Cone beam CT scan of your face, digital oral scans for dental models, facial measurements) for the surgical planning process.

How Do They Know if I Need Surgery?

Surgical candidates are determined by the collection of information gathered at your consultation visit. Our surgical candidates, specifically for maxillomandibular advancement, typically have failed previous nonsurgical and/or surgical treatments for sleep apnea. For example, many of our patients have tried oral appliances, CPAP, soft palate surgery, and nasal surgery but still have been unable to successfully treat their sleep apnea. Many of our patients come to see us because they are unable to tolerate their CPAP and want a better solution.
